Purple heron

It can easily be seen nesting in the reed beds of the marshes on the Lleida plain. The places that host most couples are the Utxesa reservoir and the Aiguabarreig (confluence) of the rivers Segre, Cinca and Ebro. It can also be found scattered across much of the irrigation network and near pools, reservoirs and ephemeral waterways. Its largest breeding area in Catalonia is on the Lleida plain.
