DISCOVERING HERITAGE
When winter is an invitation to enjoy culture
If summer in the counties of Lleida is the peak season for adventure sports, winter is the ideal time for culture, offering visitors the chance to combine the enjoyment of the snow, gastronomy and the beautiful natural landscapes of the Lleida region with an attractive list of cultural activities.
Popular tradition, often linked to religious or secular festivities – living nativity scenes, the Tres Tombs festival and Carnival, among others – combines with cultural activities of all kinds, from music concerts and theatrical performances to historical re-enactments and film festivals.
Heritage tours are another great way to enjoy culture. Popular heritage, prehistory, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaixença, Baroque, Catalan Art Nouveau or avant-garde art take a multitude of shapes in the counties of Lleida. From medieval religious architecture (including the Romanesque churches of the Vall de Boí, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the unique cathedrals of Lleida, La Seu d’Urgell or Solsona) to military architecture, with a magnificent set of border castles, in Lleida the possibilities are endless.
And we cannot forget the magnificent network of museums in the area, the remarkable examples of popular architecture – ranging from the stone and slate villages of the Pyrenees to the dry stone constructions of the plains, the rock art centres, the important Iberian and Roman archaeological sites, hydroelectric tourism and war tourism, all of which together make up an unbeatable cultural offer.
