Spring, the awakening of flavours

Spring, which straddles the cold of winter and the heat of summer, is the perfect time of year at which to taste the best of each season, from hearty spoon dishes to more refreshing meals. Evidently, it is also possible to enjoy the products and preparations that belong to each particular season. In all cases, however, we are speaking of an inland and mountain gastronomy which is characterised by the use of raw materials of great quality and which are firmly rooted in popular tradition, giving local dishes their unique nature.

The agrarian character of this territory, which boasts a strong tradition in agriculture and livestock farming, has given the stoves of Lleida a seemingly unlimited source of products from the land, and close to home. These range from delicious greens, vegetables and fruits to Lleida’s renowned pork, beef, lamb and chicken. There are also its cheeses, cured meats and pâtés, not to forget its wines and olive oils, which have a strong international reputation. 

In spring, there are also numerous attractive gastronomic gatherings, across the length and breadth of Lleida. These include such events as: the Honey Fair of Riner, the Vianda Festival of La Pobla de Segur, the “Firacóc” of Tàrrega, the Pallars Food Fest of Tremp, the “Aplec del Caragol” (Snailfest) of Lleida, The Bread and Cereal Fair of Cervera, the Paella Competition of Les Borges Blanques, and the “Cassoles de Tros” (Rural Paellas) of Juneda, amongst many others.

Finally, the different restaurants in the territory will offer tasty home-made dishes, in some cases, or high-end signature cuisine, in others, or even a combination of the two tendencies. Lleida has a gastronomic offer to satisfy all tastes and pockets.
