The olive oil of the stars
La Noguera is a diverse and extensive comarca (local district), which is both old and attractive, in which the olive tree has played an important role in moulding the landscape. On the way to the Pyrenees, agriculture is in balance with a wild and imposing nature. We are invited to observe this both by day and at night, and also what is considered “the best sky in Catalonia”.
“Noguerament bo” (as goodness as La Noguera)” is the gastronomic slogan of this agricultural area which offers food products of the highest quality and a craftsmanship all of its own. It also produces olive oils, with mills that work to create a product that is closely connected to the soil and which has its own way of doing things, and olive varieties that reach much farther than the arbequina olive.
The ambition of the producers, who are often small-scale producers and craftsmen, has also been translated into a growing offer of olive oil tourism. This combines classic events, such as guided visits and introductions to the tasting of olive oil, with tastings of cured meats and other jewels of the local gastronomy. And there is no lack of wines, either, which belong to the Costers del Segre denomination of origin.
