The flavours of the land

Quality, proximity and authenticity are three words that define the gastronomy of Lleida. From the powerful dishes of the mountains, in which veal and lamb, cured meats, cheeses and mushrooms stand out, to the cuisine of the comarques (local districts) of the plain, where pork, sweet fruit, orchard products and olive oil are the most emblematic references, throughout autumn, this territory offers a rich catalogue of culinary delights. These dishes are the product of both popular knowledge and of the experience and creativity of Lleida’s chefs. Extra-virgin olive oil, which is considered to be amongst the best in the world, and excellent wines, produced by the 36 cellars of DO Costers del Segre, are also essential products in this gastronomic panorama. In fact, so much so that have given rise to two well-consolidated phenomena: olive-oil tourism and wine tourism, which attract thousands of visitors every year. Gastronomic days, festivals and fairs have further consolidated the prestige that the comarques of Lleida have earned as part of a privileged destination for those who love haute cuisine.
